The World Is Not Broken, Our Way Of Thinking Is

Our systems are not failing, they are just failing us.

Right now, even the briefest amount of time spent flicking over social media posts or channel-surfing news networks is all that’s required to make us feel the world we live in is in serious trouble. The “Culture of Broken” we encounter is not new and I’ve written extensively about it before, citing both the reasons behind it and offering possible solutions.

Yet here we are, nine years out from the time I touched upon those ideas and we’re all experiencing a reality that reveals the gaping holes of inadequacy in the current institutions that serve us. It doesn’t matter where you choose to cast your gaze. Politics is mired in a deeply entrenched two-party system. Consider just how crazy it is that each party is itself a system designed to engineer its own dominance and success and how the system within which they both function is geared towards sustaining its own future.

Anti-racism is stymied by a systemic refusal to acknowledge the existence of racism. Capitalism, despite having won the ideological battle with its competitors seems intent on proving that it is not fit for purpose.

Poverty is increasingly seen as a personal failure and an unwillingness by individuals to take responsibility instead of the systemic failure it actually…
